On 6 June 2011 Arts Minister Simon Crean and the Chair of the Review of Private Sector Support for the Arts, Mr Harold Mitchell AC, released a discussion paper outlining the areas that will be explored in the upcoming review. The overall scope of this review is to identify any barriers or impediments to private sector support for the arts that may exist in Australia.

On 8 July 2011 NAVA made a submission in response to the discussion paper. Some of the recommendations the submission makes include: that Governments should provide accommodation to arts organisations and artists free of charge in government owned buildings and that all government grants to artists be tax exempt.
