2007 Blake Prize Winner Announced

Winners of the 2007 Blake Prize, John Coburn Award and People's Choice Award were announced at the exhibition launch last night in Sydney.

Shirley Purdie was awarded the $15,000 Blake Prize with her painting "Stations of the Cross". Purdie has rendered this narrative in traditional ochre paint using the visual language of the Gija artists of Warmun.

Record Donation to Art Gallery of NSW

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is the beneficiary of a $4 million dollar donation, which will enable it to expand its gallery space.

The money, donated by the Belgiorno-Nettis family from the construction company, Transfield, is the largest single cash donation to the gallery.

Expressions of interest are invited from artists and design teams to create a major iconic public artwork reflecting the spirit of Canberra.

This significant commission will reflect the aspirations of the Canberra community and the qualities local people value about life in Canberra. The artwork will be located along the northern approach to City Hill.
