Artist Statement
Bindi Cole is an emerging photographer and artist.
In 2007, Bindi won the Victorian Indigenous Art Photography Award as well as being a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize and the MGA Bowness Photography Prize.
Her most recent work includes exhibiting a series of 40 contemporary Indigenous portraits entitled Heart Strong at the Koorie Heritage Trust and launching the ‘Men In Black’ calendar of elite Aboriginal sports stars that she artistically directed and photographed.
Bindi is getting ready for a huge year. Her first exhibition 'Not Really Aboriginal' opens in May at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, as part of the Next Wave Festival. In June, she will be showing a series from Heart Strong at the Dreaming Festival. July sees Bindi collaborating with Lorraine Connelly-Northey and Jirra Lulla-Harvey at the VCA Gallery and finally a solo show in September at Boscia Galleries.
