Artist Statement

I’m interested in the way we make sense of the world around us, in how we interact with the physical, social and psychological spaces we inhabit, and in how we map the boundaries between our interior and exterior worlds. I work with collage, photography, video, sculpture and installation.

My work tends to progress in overlapping cycles of observation, reflection and synthesis (or ‘making’). The process of making work, rather than its eventual outcome, is important to me: in a way when I am making work I am ‘making sense’ of the world around me.

Because I’m exploring ways of creating meaning, my work often refers to objects which can operate as symbols such as glasses and shoes, to patterns and their interpretation, and to the body and the way it collects information through the senses.
