Artist Statement
Hayley has been taking photographs for many years now,
beginning at Swinburne College and pursuing her interests as far as Stockholm and the U.K. to build up her folio.
She has been printed in many catalogues & magazines both nationally and internationally, along with numerous shows in Melbourne & Long Beach, California (most recent).
Her prints are all C-Type, hand printed in a small darkroom
beneath her flat.
She believes, as Frank Horvat once said, that “the art of photography is not pressing the button”.
'She is interested in images as objects, rather than photographs and pursues the concepts of womanhood and growling night time landscapes in a painterly format.'
Photography is a way of saying things that words cannot, things best described by experiencing these scenes and landscapes personally and intimately. Hayley is intent on the emotional atmosphere in all her works, leaving a sense of ambiguity and question, often meandering between joy and terror.
I am trying to emulate feelings, whether they are painted, photographed, sketched or lyrical. I am emotionally involved in the dark room process more than anything else and once the print is finished, i would quite happily never look at it again- another chapter closed; purged
