My art practice fuses textile techniques with ceramic processes and through this fusion of wool, glaze and fire the stitches are captured and preserved. I make knitted and crocheted ceramic bowls and dishes from glaze saturated wool. At first glance they appear soft and delicate, but in reality are brittle and breakable.
My work celebrates the making process and through it I am able to contemplate and explore my own need to make. This act of making takes me out of the present, into a gentle space where I can ponder and daydream to my heart’s content. I feel this urge to make has a close connection to my domestic environment, but it serves also to nurture and satisfy the self. Essentially, we, as makers of objects, are also making time – time for ourselves.
