Artist Statement
My current body of work represents my ongoing engagement with notions and effects of hybridity and Diaspora, exploring the complexity of identity. Recent travels to those distant imagined homelands are the stories reflected in photographs, combined, layered, hybridised with old postcards and old photographs of the stories collected from family, known and unknown, traditional Armenian carpets designs layered together with wallpaper patterns admired and collected. All of this become a chaotic palimpsest of imagery. The ideas of the souvenir, memento, memory and longing are embedded in the images.
