“I am passionate about recycling and have used recycled materials to frame and present my work. By doing this I give new life to what would have been discarded.â€
My work is driven by my passion for storytelling. The paintings, drawings and installations I create are expressions of the stories I seek to share. I work with mixed media, both natural and recycled materials to create layers of imagery and texture on a variety of surfaces. I often weave text from my stories into my work and during this process I feel as if I am creating a visual story with each layer representing a part of the story it represents.
My concerns for the state of our natural environment and the loss of our cultural heritage and stories are issues which inspire and influence the creation of new works. Connecting communities through storytelling and art over a cup of tea is a strong direction in my work. As well as developing and implementing projects that provide opportunities to collaborate with children in the creation of new stories and art. Community art and community collaboration have featured strongly in my work for the past two years. The inspiration, feedback and satisfaction I receive from community art projects, drives me to continue to work in this area. The need for self expression is enormous; the sharing of stories is one way of achieving this.
Connecting communities through storytelling and visual art is my passion. The need for self expression in local communities is enormous, the means to do this can sometimes be limited and the sharing of stories is one way of achieving this. I am happiest when working on community arts projects where this is a collaborative effort to create new art and stories which result in mutual gain and benefits for all involved, June 2010.
