Artist Statement
My practice is primarily based in the construction of sculptural installation, exploring the progressive uses of video projection as a medium. These installations are often manifestations of the inner world - mind, fantasy, a channel for unresolved themes to be explored and romanticised. The identity of the artist as Artist is often the stage in which the works unfold, honed perhaps from the teachings of my parents who are artists themselves. Technical experimentation to create Illusion is a strong facet of my work, as I believe that an element of magic and wonder is very important to the artistic experience. I am also influenced by many discourses, including postmodernism, philosophy, popular science, and esoterics. Text is also important, with words such as 'abstract' or 'concept', or 'hyper-inter-meta-omni-anti-quasi-pseudo-psycho-post-postmodernism' building underlying structures to my practice. My photographs, in contrast, have mostly been of captured moments from the world at large - documents of quietly dramatic scenes in day to day living that are often overlooked by functionality. They are portraits of my trajectories in the world - be it in travel, domestic settings, or from a fear of insects.
