Artist Statement

Australian artist experienced in Painting, Drawing, Portraiture and Sculpture Installation. Xersa was a finalist in the Dobell Prize in 1993 with the drawing at the top right corner. Xersa's work shows confident drawing or brushwork in combination with washes or blending and using the ground as part of the finished surface. In this way,an artwork can have many facets combined to form a oneness. Drawing forms a structure for self expression and is not unlike Architecture in that a firm knowledge base leads to confident improvisation. Xersa draws upon an atavic memory and a background in Zen gives an edgyness to her works.

On Sunday, October 30th 2011, Deutscher And Hackett Fine Art Auctions for an "In honour of David Brand" fundraising. 105 Commercial Road South Yarra, Vic, 3141. Recently focussing on an exhibition at Affirmation Arts Gallery in New York was a progressive idea which resulted in successfully having an Artwork sold at the New York Downtown Hospital annual gala held at Ciprianni on Wall Street. It will be a short while before another overseas exhibition is held due to economic considerations. Xersa's work is expanding and growing in volume so another showing is on the cards. possibly in Australia again in the short term but London is on the calendar and another follow up exhibition at a gallery in New York. The drawings for this exhibition were large, one being 4 meters in width. Charcoal is still the favoured medium as it offers versatility. Xersa is drawing as she did in her younger years now but applying the vigour and freshness of the Zen techniques that have influenced drawings and painting from 1982 to 2008. Many prizes have been won for this early style and will be on view again soon. A news letter is constantly updated on <xersa.info> if you wish to keep informed.

Xersa has been working furiously on new drawings to hold a travelling exhibition. The intention is to follow up on her solo exhibition that was held in New York NY in 2009. An intriguing trip to Singapore, and something in London is still in the brewing pot.

Her website, xersa.info is quite an informative one and keeps us all up to date.
