Why create a gallery on www.visualarts.net.au?

1. www.visualarts.net.au receives an average of 10, 000 unique visits per month. Having a gallery on www.visualarts.net.au gives you the opportunity to expand the audience of your art practice.

2. Galleries on www.visualarts.net.au are free and can include images and videos of your artwork, an artist statement and a link to your website.

3. You can use the gallery to network with other artists by using the favourites function to see what other visual artists, craftspeople and designers are doing.

4. By having an online gallery on www.visual.arts.net.au  you are eligible to be chosen as the Featured Artist on the homepage, giving you sought after exposure for your practice. *

5. You can also be chosen to be featured in the NAVA Quarterly – published 4 times a year and sent to NAVA members, galleries, government bodies and relevant visual arts, craft and design bodies. *

*All galleries on the site are eligible, however,  NAVA members are given preference.

How do I create a gallery on www.visualarts.net.au?

You must be a registered user of the site to create an online gallery on www.visualarts.net.au Instructions on how to register can be found in Site FAQs (at the bottom of the screen)

Creating an online gallery:

1. Log in to www.visualarts.net.au

2. Once are logged you will be taken to your profile. (Your profile contains all of your private registration information that is not published publicly.)

3. Click on ‘Create Artist Gallery’ in the green navigation menu on the left of the screen.

4. From here you will be taken to a page to enter details about your practice. This information that you enter here will be publicly published on the site. (You must fill in the Country, State and Artform fields.)

5. Once you have entered the relevant information click Save.

6. You will now be taken to your individual artist gallery. At this time you can 'unpublish' your gallery until you have finished uploading all your images. To do this click on the ‘Unpublish Gallery’ tab underneath the name of you gallery.

You are now ready to upload images and videos. To do this refer to the Gallery FAQs:

How do I upload images to my gallery?

Once you have completed steps 1 – 6 of the Gallery FAQ 'How to create a gallery on www.visualarts.net.au?' You are now ready to upload and images to your gallery.

1. Click on ‘Upload Images to My Gallery’ in the green navigation menu on the left of the screen.

2. You will be taken to a page where you can upload up to 5 images. Click on the Browse button to select the images you wish to upload from your computer or external storage deveice (eg USB stick, disc etc).

3. Once you have selected the images you wish to upload click on the 'Submit Files' button.

4. This will take you to a screen to enter the artwork credits of the image. Enter the image credits for each image.

5. Select which image you would like to be the main image in the far left column. (The main image will be the cover image of your gallery.)

6. Once you have entered the artwork credits and the selected the main image click the 'Submit' button.

7. The uploading images process is now complete.

You can edit the artwork credits or change the images in your gallery at any time by clicking on ‘Manage Images’ underneath the main image of your gallery.

How do I add videos to my gallery?

You can add videos to your gallery that are video artworks or documentary videos of your art making.

1. Click on ‘Add Videos to My Gallery’ in the green navigation menu on the left of the screen.

2. You must enter the Artwork Name, Medium and Year fields, adding a description for the video is optional.

3. To add a video to your gallery it must already by uploaded to YouTube or MetaCafe. Enter the URL or embed code in the Video URL field.

4. Once you have entered all the correct details click the 'Save' button.

You can edit the video credits and description of your videos at any time by clicking on ‘Manage ‘Videos’ underneath the main image of your gallery.

How many images and videos can I have in my gallery?

There is no limit to the images and videos you can upload to your gallery. There is, however, a storage limit that you can upload to the gallery. Each gallery is allocated a total space of 100MB. Once you have used up this quota you will not be able to upload any further images. There is no limit to the number of videos you can add to your gallery.

NAVA recommends that you upload a minimum of 10 images per gallery.

What file types and resolution of images can I upload to my gallery?

General screen standards for images are 72 dpi and in RGB colour mode. This will ensure that your images reproduce faithfully. We would not recommend uploading images to your gallery that are more than 150dpi. Images larger than 800 pixels (width) x 600 pixels (height) will be automatically re-sized. The only file types that can be uploaded to the site are jpg, jpeg, gif, png.

How can I edit my gallery?

You can edit your gallery at any time by following these steps:

1. Log in to www.visualarts.net.au (if you can’t remember you log in details click on ‘Login Problems?’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen).

2. Click on ‘My Profile’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen.

3. Once in your profile click on ‘View My Gallery’ in the green navigation menu on the left of the screen.

4. To edit your artist statement click on the ‘Edit’ tab underneath the name of your gallery.

5. To edit images or videos click on ‘Manage Images’ or ‘Manage Videos’ underneath the main image of your gallery.

How do I change the name of my gallery?

The name of your gallery is determined by the first name and last name that you entered when you registered with the site. If you would like to change the name of your artist gallery follow these steps:

1. Log in to www.visualarts.net.au (if you can’t remember you log in details click on ‘Login Problems?’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen).

2. Click on ‘My Profile’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen.

3. Click on the ‘Edit’ tab underneath your name in blue.

4. Click on the ‘Personal Details’ tab that appears underneath the ‘Edit’ Tab.

5. Enter the first name and last name that you wish to change it to and the click the ‘Update’ button.

Once you have completed these steps the name of your gallery will automatically be updated.

How do I take my gallery offline?

Sometimes you may wish to take you gallery offline while you are editing and uploading new content. To unpublish your gallery follow these steps.

1. Log in to www.visualarts.net.au (if you can’t remember you log in details click on ‘Login Problems?’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen).

2. Click on ‘My Profile’ in the log in box in the top right corner of the screen.

3. Once in your profile click on ‘View My Gallery’ in the green navigation menu on the left of the screen.

4. When you are viewing your gallery click on the 'Unpublish' tab underneath the name of your gallery. You will notice that the background of your gallery is now yellow. This means that your gallery is now offline and can not be accessed publicly.

To re-publish your gallery after you have taken it offline:

1. Follow steps 1 - 3 from above.

2. When you are viewing your gallery click on the 'Publish' tab underneath the name of your gallery. You will notice that the background of your gallery is now white again. This means that your gallery is now online and can be viewed by publicly.
