Art & Australia/Credit Suisse Private Banking Contemporary Art Award

This prestigious award supports emerging professional artists through publishing an image of the winner's work on the back cover of Art & Australia magazine and inside, an article on the winner's practice. One of the 2012 winners will have a work acquired for the Art & Australia Collection. Also from this year, each of the award recipients will be offered a complimentary full-page advertisement in Art & Australia.

  • Closing date: 1 March 2012
  • Notification: Two months following the closing date

Applications must submitted online by the above due date. Printed applications will not be accepted.

Eligibility

  • You must be a visual artist who has been practising professionally for no more than five years, and who has had work publicly exhibited.
  • You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or have permanent resident status in Australia or New Zealand.
   

How to apply

  • To apply for this award you will need to submit an online application.

Support Material

As part of your online application you will need to upload the following support material:

  • your Artist CV, no more than 1 x A4 pages in length and saved as a .pdf file*;
  • 10 images supporting your art practice. These should be uploaded in one PowerPoint file, one image per slide. Click here to download a template; 
  • an Image List, listing the titles of your images in the order they appear in the PowerPoint file. This should be saved as a .pdf file*. Click here to view an example Image List;
  • a moving image file (if applicable to your practice), saved as an MP4 file;
  • 2 professional references, saved as .pdf files*.

*How to create a .pdf file from a Word document

  • In the Word document go to File and click ‘Save As’
  • Select the drop down menu next to ‘Format’ and click ‘PDF’
  • Click the ‘Save’ button
   

Assessment

Four artists will be selected every 12 months using the following selection criteria:

  • artistic merit and well-developed concepts.
  • a well developed artistic practice and vision of a professional career.

Artistic merit will be judged on the basis of work completed to date and the applicant's commitment to furthering his/her career in the visual arts, which will be assessed from information provided in the online application.

Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to re-apply, but successful applicants are ineligible for further assistance through this scheme.

A shortlist of artists is selected by members of the Art & Australia advisory board. The final decision is made by staff of Art & Australia (in consultation with the advisory board).

Art & Australia is published quarterly, in March, June, September and December.
