The Sainsbury Sculpture Grant provides financial support for emerging Australian artists and groups working in sculpture and/or installation to further their professional skills.

  • Closing date: Monday 30 September 2013
  • Notification: Friday 29 November 2013
  • Funding available: individual applicants will be awarded $2,000 each and groups/collectives can be awarded $4,000

Applications

Applications must be submitted by the above closing date to NAVA PO 60, Potts Point, NSW, 1335.

About

The Sainsbury Sculpture Grant was established in memory of Madeline Olive Taylor through her estate, to provide financial support for emerging Australian artists and groups working in sculpture and/or installation to further their professional skills.

According to Madeline Olive Taylor’s wishes, selected recipients are to be provided with funds to undertake further study, residencies or professional development workshops either locally or internationally.

Eligibility

  • You must be an “emerging artist” i.e. you have practised as a professional artist continually for less than 5 years but wish to develop your career in your chosen artform.
  • You must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

How to apply

  • Applications for this award must be completed by the Artist.

Support material

As part of your application you will need to upload the following support material:

  • your artist CV/s, no more than 1 x A4 pages in length and saved as a .pdf file;
  • 10 images supporting your art practice/s. These should be uploaded in one PowerPoint file, one image per slide. Click here to download a template. (Powerpoint files need to be saved as .ppt files to be uploaded);
  • an Image List, listing the titles of your images in the order they appear in the PowerPoint file, including year of creation, materials and dimensions. Save as a .pdf file*. Click here to view an example Image List;
  • a moving image (if applicable to your practice), saved as an MP4 file;
  • a professional reference saved as a .pdf file;
  • if applicable, a letter of confirmation from the host organisation or mentor saved as a .pdf file.

Assessment

The recipients will be chosen on the basis of their demonstrating:

  • a commitment to sculpture and/or installation;
  • high quality work to date;
  • an appropriate professional development opportunity to undertake;
  • access to financial support. 

The assessment panel will consist of two art industry professionals and a NAVA representative will chair the meeting. All applications that fulfil the conditions of entry will be put forward for assessment.  The assessors will consider all applications against the selection criteria and give the applications a rating out of five. Up to four applicants will be selected as winners with at least half being female artists.
