NAVA congratulates Ken Unsworth, recipient of the Emeritus Award and Ann Lewis, recipient of the Emeritus Medal.

Ken Unsworth AM received the $40,000 Emeritus Award for his contribution to Australian sculpture and for his achievements in the development of Australian visual arts both nationally and internationally.

NAVA today responded to the NSW Attorney General’s announcement that the ‘artistic defence’ is to be removed from the NSW Crimes Act for child pornography offences.

NAVA congratulates Professor Ted Snell for his reappointment as the Chair of the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council for a further three years. In his first term as Chair Professor Snell has overseen the delivery of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS), which has been of great benefit to the sector.

The Australia Council for the Arts recently released a new report, More than bums on seats: Australian participation in the arts.

A Discussion Paper on the new and updated national qualifications in Visual Arts Craft and Design is now available. This paper will inform the first consultation phase of the project which runs from mid-February to the end of March.

NAVA's Annual General Meeting of Members of the National Association for the Visual Arts will be held in the meeting room on the second floor, the Gunnery, 43-51 Cowper Wharf Rd, Woolloomooloo, Sydney NSW. Them eeting will take place on Friday 21st May 2010 from 9.30am to 10.30am.

Voting is now open for the Election of nominees to the NAVA Board. There are four nominees to fill three organisation representative positions.

NAVA has made a submission to the National Cultural Policy consultation in response to the Federal Arts Minister Peter Garrett's call for contributions form the Arts Sector.

NAVA is seeking an experienced person for the position of Strategy and Projects Manager for our office in Sydney. The person will be responsible for policy position development, and management of projects that address identified issues within the visual arts, craft, and design sector.
