Australia Council guarantees funding for artists

Submitted by Cassandra on Wed, 2008-04-23 15:48.

In a statement to The Australian on 23 April, Kathy Keele, CEO of the Australia Council, promised to maintain funding levels for artists and arts organisations in the forthcoming budget. The announcement follows a Federal government instruction that the Council should make savings of $2 million. Last month, the Council commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to look at how the savings could be achieved.

Ms Keele has now announced that the Australia Council will make economies in such areas as travel, corporate resources and project management. She also plans to streamline the grant application process by introducing such initiatives as online applications.

NAVA welcomes Kathy Keele’s support for artists and arts organisations. And we note that changes to the application procedures could have a double benefit. They’ll not only reduce costs but could well simplify the process for everyone.
