NAVA would like to congratulate the following artists and arts workers who were acknowledged in the Australia Day Honours List this year:
Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia
- Mr Peter Charles Byers, South Hobart, Tas. For service to educational administration, to the arts, and to business. Peter's work includes being Chair of the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board, Chair of the Contemporary Arts Society of Tasmania in the 1990s and being responsible for the redevelopment of the former IXL Jam Factory in Hunter Street, Hobart, for the School of Art, University of Tasmania; a national prize-winning project.
- Mr Graham John Jahn, Sydney, NSW. For service to architecture, particularly through the promotion of excellence in urban design and planning, to professional associations, and to local government and the arts. Graham's work includes being National President, Royal Australian Institute of Architects (now Australian Institute of Architects) (2000-2003), Life Fellow (2003), Member, National Executive (1999-2004); Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney, since 2009 and Board Member of the Sydney Biennale Board (1998-2003).
Medal (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia
- Mrs Judith Ann Friend, Sydney, NSW. For service to the arts through voluntary roles with the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Judith's work includes being a founding Member of the Volunteer Guides at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, since 1972 and serving as Guide Coordinator, Lecture Coordinator and Contemporary Art Liaison Officer at the Gallery. She is also a founding Member of the Volunteer Guides at the Museum of Contemporary Art, since 1991 and served as Guide Coordinator at the MCA from 1991-1993 and Ambassador and Benefactor since 2007.
- Mr Victor George Wood, Burwood, Vic. For service to arts and crafts in Australia as an artisan and through the Victorian Woodworkers Association. Victor was the founder and Inaugural President of the Victorian Woodworkers Association and is also a Member of the Craft Council of Victoria. His work is exhibited in collections internationally and in Australia.
