INDEX CALL FOR PROPOSALS - Residencies, Exhibitions, Workshops and Performances

This year INDEX. will seek to define itself by providing a space dedicated to the cultivation of risk taking and experimentation in the visual arts.  We hope to build on those qualities and strengths we see as organic to INDEX. These strengths include our distance from the Sydney art establishment, and a supportive environment in which dialogue around work can develop.

If you've ever thought of something your commercial gallerist would never approve; if you've ever wanted to make something that has nothing to do with what people expect from you; if you have an idea that is so stupid, so absurd that you have never wasted your time entering it on a funding application, or proposing it to a gallery or institution, we want to talk to you.

Residencies, Exhibitions, Workshops and Performances

To better encourage artists who are seriously considering the kind of risk taking we would like to see, we are offering four one month residencies across the year in our large space (60+ sq meters) including an exhibition of the produced work at a subsidized rate.  These residencies are intended to give artists the time to develop a single ambitious work and will be awarded to those artists who are most committed to doing something that other people don’t want or think they should do.

Our main space is otherwise available for three week exhibitions at $300 per week.

We are also looking for a variety of proposals; including conducting workshops, symposium, performance and time based projects and events.
