Workshop presented by Viscopy.
As the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art market grows and matures, more people and organisations want to use copies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art works for many different purposes. The uses vary from copies in books and television programs or, on clothing or stamps, just to name a few. Copies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks are made in Australia and many other parts of the world. This education workshop aims to promote awareness of the importance of copyright and to provide information about earning money from copyright through licensing.
VIscopy is Australia’s dedicated non-for-profit rights management organisation for visual artists. We are a membership organisation that represents more than 7000 visual artists, half of whom are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. For many years Viscopy has received federal funding to provide copyright and licensing education to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and art centre workers regardless of whether they are members of Viscopy.
Presenter: Donna is a descendant of the Mununjali people from Beaudesert in Queensland. Over the past 12 years she has worked extensively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in performance and education.
If you don’t know the answer to one or more of these questions then this workshop is for you:
· What do you do if someone wants to copy your artwork?
· What is copyright?
· Who owns copyright?
· What do I do if my artwork is copied without permission?
· How do I license my artworks to make additional money?
