The National Gallery of Australia Research Library is a world-class art library. As well as a general coverage of art history, the Research Library's collections have particular strengths which match those of the Gallery's art collection.
The Australia Council is committed to improving knowledge and understanding about arts and culture in Australia and the issues affecting Australian artists. The Research Centre provides a range of services to support the Australian arts sector. The Centre undertakes strategic research projects to inform Council policy development and provides support to Australian researchers working across the arts, cultural policy, education and innovation sectors. There is also a Library available for use by appointment.
The Jerzy Toeplitz Library serves the film, broadcasting and new media industries as well as staff and students of the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
Our facilities and resources are open to the public.
The Rodney Seaborn Library is a specialist library catering for the information needs of the students, graduates and staff of NIDA. The collection is particularly strong in the areas of theatre, drama and play scripts. There are some 36,000 books in the library and over 50 journals are regularly received. There is also a collection of some 3,000 sound recordings including music, plays, dialects and theatre interviews, and a collection of some 3,600 videos and CD-ROMs.
The Research Library holds one of the finest natural history collections in Australia. Dating from 1836, the Research Library has developed comprehensive and specialised collections in the areas of vertebrate and invertebrate zoology and taxonomy, anthropology, earth and environmental sciences, materials science and museology. Over 12,000 journal titles, dating from the 1800's, are held in the Library.
The beautiful 400 hectare campus is 20km north-east of Melbourne's city centre.The Borchardt Library is located at the North end of the Agora with the entrance on the 2nd level.
he SCA Library has a specialist collection of books relating to the theory and practice of contemporary visual arts and design. The collection also includes material on critical theory, media and gender studies.
The SCA library holds a range of different types of material available for loan, including books, videos, slides and multimedia. The library also holds journals and reference material on the visual arts.
he Research Centre is the single most important resource for researching Australia's military history. It is the first point of contact for all public inquiries about Australian military history and the Memorial's collections.
The Research Centre is open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 1 pm to 5 pm. Retrieval of records ceases at 4.15 pm. It is closed on Sundays and ACT public holidays.
The Powerhouse Museum Research Library is a reference library supporting the exhibitions, publications and programs of the Museum. Although open to the public by appointment only, it is not a public library and services provided to visitors are dependent on the availability of Library staff. Borrowing rights are restricted to employees of the Powerhouse Museum.
